Gemma Nightingale

Gemma graduated from the University of Manchester Medical School (UK) in 2007. After completing her general medical and surgical jobs, she started Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialty training in 2009. Working in a variety of small hospitals and large tertiary units she gained broad experience within the specialty and qualified to be on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council (GMC). She completed advanced training modules in 'Urogynaecology and Vaginal Surgery' and 'Advanced Labour Ward Practice'.

Gemma moved to New Zealand mid 2020 having secured a substantive Senior Medical Officer role in Hutt Valley DHB.

Gemma has a special interest in prolapse and incontinence and has won several awards when presenting her research at national and international meetings.  She has published five papers in peer reviewed journals and continues to perform regular audit of her surgical outcomes. Gemma is an active committee member for the International Urogynaecological Association (IUGA). Within this she has organised, moderated and spoken on numerous educational webinars and coordinated an international wellness challenge.

Gemma is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, UK, and also an Educational Affiliate of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

​

Gemma works with patients to optimise conservative measures before starting medications or discussing surgery. She is a confident surgeon performing hysteroscopic, laparoscopic (key hole), open and vaginal surgery.

​

Gemma's practice excludes colposcopy.

 

​

Gemma also provides private Obstetric care working as part of the Complete Obstetrics team.
